I Am Amused

So, I am sitting on the couch with my father. The TV is on. He is reading the news. And I am too.

On my laptop.

Someone Needs to Be Wrong

I got home from work about an hour ago, I'm tired, I'm frustrated, and I'm in an all around pissy mood.

Someone needs to be wrong somewhere on the internet - so that I can go yell at them.

Pretty please?

Another Note to "Leaders" Declaring Premature Victory

Wildfires stripping hillsides bare in the fall? Cue to mudslides in winter - provided we actually get rain.

Call Me Crazy

Now, the six illegal immigrants caught stealing relief supplies from Qualcomm may have simply been planning on selling the supplies, but did anyone think to consider that they may have been bringing them to families and friends hiding/living in the hills out of fear of being arrested?

Sadly ironic, no?

Regardless of the guilt or innocence of this particular group of illegal immigrants, it seems to me if any of our leaders actually wanted to be a leader, they'd do more than just call off the hunting of illegal immigrants for logistical reasons. They'd also declare/call for temporary amnesty and send someone out to deliver supplies and make it clear that no illegal immigrants who go to Qualcomm will be arrested or have their presence documented in any way (except possibly age and overall numbers for statistics reasons).

Does anyone know if RedCross or Fire and Rescue is sending anyone out there?

I Hate The News

"We aren't having a public health crisis in addition to the property destruction because the state and federal government learned all sorts of good lessons from Katrina!"

Oh, bullshit

We aren't having a public health crisis because

A) EVERYONE HERE HAS CARS SO THEY CAN EVACUATE ON THEIR OWN

b) California learned some lessons from the 2003 fires.

c) This is mostly happening in rich, often white, areas of SoCal

d) there aren't so many national guard units needed yet that the war has become an obvious issue

seriously people, wtf?

It's Still Several Blocks Away From the Library

But it's eating up all my kids homes. I just hope they're all ok.

:(

correction: CBS is now showing downtown and there is smoke right behind the library (which is off screen)

update: two blocks away

Random Things I've Been Meaning To Mention

- My niece's favorite song is currently the Blue October suicide song. She's three.

- I am still in denial about VM. (And therefore haven't watched the finale - so no spoilers.)

- Someone needs to get working on those hoverboards, bc they're in all the "not too distant future" stories. And that not too distant future is coming up fast. Plus, they are super cool.

- I am addicted to Ice Chai Lattes. Must. Find. Healthier. Drink.

- Nora Roberts has most definitely made a pact with the devil. I don't care that I don't believe in the devil, it's just not possible for someone to write that many books a year and have them be that good. Not without help.

- I'm really scared the HP7 is going to be disappointing. I have slightly better hopes for movie #5.

Apologies Once Again

...for the lack of posts.

I had an out of town wedding to go to and I got sidetracked typing up a series of posts that will likely never see the light of day because my ideas are all jumbled and incomprehensible.

Mostly, though, it turns out that Kingdom Hearts II is just as addicting as the original.

MUST. GET. OWN. PLAYSTATION.

grad school applications? what grad school applications? I have to go help Pooh get his memory back!

Congrats!

Apologies for disappearing again. I'm giving my cousin a bridal shower this weekend and I've been busy getting ready for the last week or two. I've also been sick, so any other spare time I've had I've spent sleeping (or at least resting - by breezing through almost all four seasons of Remington Steele).

But I wanted take a moment to say congrats to all the 2007 ALA literary award winners, most especially John Green for following up his Printz winning debut novel with a Printz honor winner for his second try (not too bad) and Kate DiCamillo for not only knocking everyone's socks off with every book, but also writing award winning books for more than one age group.
